Prime Bank punish Sakib’s Legends

Prime Bank Cricket Club crossed a major hurdle in the Dhaka Premier League when they thrashed holders Legends of Rupganj by 95 runs in a crucial tie at the BKSP on Wednesday. The joining of Sakib al Hasan could not inspire the Legends, who have now suffered their third consecutive defeat to slip to fourth position in the league.Mohammedan Sporting Club and Prime Doleshwar posted contrasting wins in the other two matches to consolidate their respective positions in the points table.Mohammedan beat Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by eight runs while Prime Doleshwar trounced whipping boys Old DOHS by 106 runs.

Legends of Rupganj v Prime Bank
All eyes were at BKSP where the two top teams met in a potentially title deciding match illuminated by the presence of star like Sakib al Hasan.
However, it was not Sakib, rather his spin bowling partner in the national team Taijul Islam hogged the headline in the crucial match.Taijul began from where he ended on the fifth ODI, picking up four wickets for 32 runs to help Prime Bank dismiss Legends for 148 runs after they posted 243-9 in 50 overs.Prime successfully negotiated Sakib’s threat keeping him limited to one wicket for 32 runs as everyone contributed to their total. Shuvagata Hom top scored with 46 runs before he became the lone victim of Sakib.Prime also owed their total to Nurul Hasan, who has a payment dispute pending with Legends. The young wicketkeeper struck 41 off 33 balls with three fours and two sixes to take Prime’s total close to 250-run mark which proved to be more than enough.Legends began their chase positively with in form opener Jahirul Islam scoring his fourth fifty, 53 off 84 balls.
However, they soon lost their way after Farhad Reza struck one-down Mosharraf Hossain in his jaw with a short-pitch ball requiring him to leave the field for a treatment in a local hospital. With 54-2, Sakib was expected to bring the innings back on track but did exactly the opposite. The talismanic all-rounder hit a four and a six off the first six balls he faced and was caught by Tajiul at the deep off Farhad trying to heave his second six.
After Sakib’s departure for 11 off six balls onus fell on Ryan ten Doeschate, who replaced Azhar Zaidi as overseas player. But his 40 off 41 balls inclusive of a four and four sixes could only reduce the margin.

Mohammedan v Sk Jamal
At the SBNS, Naeem Islam scored his fifth fifty, 57 off 98 balls as Mohammedan scored 185 runs with Sohag Gazi taking 3-33 runs for Jamal.
Jamal seemed cruising as Shahriar Nafees made 89 off 115 balls but a dramatic collapse saw them losing their last four wickets for six runs to be dismissed for 177 runs.  Naeem accomplished a fine all-round performance to take 3-21.

Prime Doleshwar v Old DHOS
Mehedi Maruf scored highest 47 while Rony Talukdar and Mushfiqur Rahim added 29 and 25 runs respectively as Prime Doleshwar put 225-9. Saleh Ahmed grabbed 4-30 runs for DOHS.Doleshwar made it a winning score when the folded DOHS for just 116 runs with Asif Ahmed taking 5-24.
