BNP-led alliance’s blockade steps into 25th day

The countrywide indefinite transport blockade, sponsored by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance, entered the 25th day on Friday, reports United News of Bangladesh.Besides, a 24-hour hartal in the capital city enforced by the alliance protesting the filing of ‘false cases’ against Khaleda Zia and the arrest of its leaders and activists ended at 6:00am today with some stray incidents of violence.No procession or picketing was seen in support of the blockade in the capital while vehicles plied the city streets as usual.Miscreants set a bus afire at Tantibazar.Law enforcers remained deployed in adequate numbers at the important points of the city.No untoward incident was reported from any part of the country till filing of this report around 11.00am.


The 24th day of the blockade on Thursday was largely peaceful barring some stray incidents of violence.Amid the ongoing indefinite countrywide blockade, the 20-party alliance on Wednesday called the 24-hour hartal from 6:00 am Thursday in the capital city alongside a daylong one in Dhaka and its eight other nearby districts.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia called the indefinite blockade from January 6 as the government did not allow her party and its allies to hold protest rallies in the capital.
