Sedition case filed against Manna, Khoka.

A sedition case was lodged against Nagarik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Bangladesh Nationalist Party vice-chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka on Thursday for their telephone conversation leaked on social media. Police filed the sedition charge with Gulshan police station Thursday night, said DMP Gulshan zone assistant commissioner Nurul Alam. Manna, former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students Union, is currently on a 10-day remand in Detective Branch of police custody in a case for ‘trying to instigate mutiny in armed forces’. In the telephonic conversations, Manna shared ideas with Sadeque Hossain Khoka and an unidentified person about how to strengthen the current movement and his apparent willingness to have talks with army generals. Gulshan police sub-inspector Sheikh Sohel Rana filed the case after getting clearance from ministry of home affairs.

The ministry approved the case on Tuesday, said officials. In its application, police sought home ministry clearance to file a case in charge of conspiracy against the state and posing threat to the state security and sovereignty. Earlier, police filed a general dairy (1688) against Manna on February 26 after his telephonic conversation was leaked on YouTube. Prior to that, Manna was picked up by unidentified people identifying them as DB men on early February 24. Rapid Action Battalion disclosed arresting him around 21 hours after disappearance. He was then handed over to DB and now in their custody.
