Khaleda to be arrested when warrant reaches police: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told parliament on Wednesday that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia would face imprisonment once the court order on her arrest reaches the police station in Gulshan. Replying to a supplementary question from Bangladesh Tarikat Federation lawmaker MA Awal, Sheikh Hasina said police would act once the warrant for her arrest and search of her office reached them. The prime minister alleged the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led 20-party alliance has been trying to create anarchy in the name of political activities. They have been killing innocent people irrespective of men, women, children and elderly people, in firebomb attacks, she said. ‘People already understand that Khaleda’s movement was not for people, it was designed to serve her own purpose,’ Hasina said, adding, ‘a total of 119 people have been killed during the so-called transport blockade and strikes, in 64 days of chaos. Most of them were killed in firebomb attacks’. The opposition activists attacked more than 1,000 vehicles, set fire to six motor launches and attacked 34 trains during the blockade and strikes.

Hasina also replied to other questions during her scheduled question-answer session after the parliament resumed in the afternoon with deputy speaker Md Fazle Rabbi Mia in the chair. She said the BNP leaders and activists were not with Khaleda, who has been directing acts of sabotage sitting at her Gulshan office. ‘Khaleda has been trying to turn Bangladesh into a failed state… she has no respect for the judiciary,’ Hasina said. Replying to another question at the very beginning of PM’s question-answer session, Hasina expressed her hope that Bangladesh would play in the semi-final of the ongoing Cricket World Cup. She said Bangladesh already beat England in the group match and congratulated the Bangladesh team. ‘On behalf of all the members of Parliament, I want to congratulate our team. This is the first time we reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup winning three matches consecutively,’ she said. - See more at: http://newagebd.net/102197/khaleda-to-be-arrested-when-warrant-reaches-police-pm/#sthash.LzPId6oG.dpuf
