LANGADU ARSON Lawmakers for actions against attackers

Independent lawmaker and PCJSS leader Ushatan Talukdar and Bangladesh Nationalist Front lawmaker Abul Kalam Azad on Monday demanded punitive action against the perpetrators of arson attack on ethnic minorities in Langadu of Rangamati.
Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti leader Ushatan, while speaking on a point of order in parliament, also demanded formation of a judicial and parliamentary probe body to investigate atrocities on ethnic minorities in Langadu.
Ushatan, elected from Rangamati, termed the attack ‘pre-planned’ and demanded exemplary punishment of those involved in the incident. 
On June 2 morning, houses of nearly three hundred hill people in the hill villages of Tintila, Battala, Battya Para, Kattoltala, Manikbi Chhara along with Langadu
upazila town were set on fire. A septuagenarian woman was burnt to death.
The attack came after the body of a local Juba League leader Nurul Islam was recovered at Char Mile of Khagrachari on June 1 afternoon.
Miscreants attacked indigenous peoples’ houses using the tension over the killing a local Juba League leader. Many ethnic minority people are still living in the jungle, said Ushatan.
‘Indigenous people are in panic. They are living in inhuman situation as they are starving due to shortage of food and water,’ he said.
Ushatan Talukder demanded that the government take immediate measures to ensure food and rehabilitation of the affected people.
He also said such attack on ethnic minorities were taking place one after another as the Chittagong 
Hill Tracts treaty was yet to be implemented completely.
Speaking on a point of order, Bangladesh Nationalist Front MP Abul Kalam Azad also demanded punitive action against the arsonists.
