2018 will be year of people, tyrant will go: Khaleda

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday said that 2018 would be the year of people and both tyranny and the tyrant would leave the country in the year.
Khaleda, a former prime minister, made the remarks when briefly addressing an iftar party.
Liberal Democratic Party, a component of BNP-led alliance, hosted the iftar party in honor of politicians at
Dhaka Ladies Club in the capital.
On the proposed budget, Khaleda said the government thrust its hands into people’s pocket.
She came down hard on finance minister AMA Muhith for his recent comment that those who had one lakh taka in banks were rich.
In a rhetoric question, Khaleda asked then what about their (ruling party) thousands of crores of taka.
She said none would dare to deposit money in banks following imposition of Tk 800 excise duty on deposit of Tk 1 lakh in banks in the proposed budget.
The BNP chief said 2016 was the year of Awami League’s stealing of banks.
She alleged after stealing bank money they (ruling party) also stole money of Bangladesh Bank and siphoned the money.
She alleged that none know about investigation of the bank money theft.
The investigation report was kept at the central bank and fire broke out at the bank.
Khaleda said law and order was falling while prices of essential goods were shooting up.
Awami League was telling lies to bluff people, she said adding that this party had assured people of rice at Tk 10 per kg but now price of one kilogram rice was Tk 50 to Tk 60.
The condition of the poor was wretched, she said.
Apart from fish and meat, no vegetable was available below Tk 40 to Tk 50, she alleged.
Even then, price of gas was being increased repeatedly, she said.
Khaleda said the government increased price of power and water as well as every other item.
She said the government claimed that it would brighten the country by supplying power but now power cuts were rampant even in Dhaka city.
The entire country was in darkness, said Khaleda.
The BNP chief said now people were not getting justice and claimed that not judges, but the Awami League government controlled judiciary.
She said incidents of killing and enforced disappearances were regular phenomena.
LDP president Oli Ahmed also addressed the iftar party attended by the leaders of BNP-led alliance.
