Say ‘no’ to militancy, terrorism: PM

Asserting that those involved in militant acts will never be forgiven, prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday urged all to say ‘no’ to militancy and terrorism as the country’s people do not want fighting, killing, arson and militancy. ‘We don’t want fighting, killing, arson and militancy. I’ll request all to say no to militancy and terrorism,’ she said. The prime minister was addressing a children and juvenile rally arranged by the Dhaka district administration at Bangabandhu National Stadium on the occasion of the 45th Independence and National Day, United News of Bangladesh reports. Taking a swipe at the BNP-Jamaat alliance for their heinous acts against the country’s people, including children, she said there will be no mercy for such acts. ‘Those involved in heinous acts will never be forgiven, the nation will surely reject with hatred those who will play with the future of the country’s children,’ she said firmly. Hasina said the people of the county do not want to see someone to burn children, destroy their future and block the path of their academic life. In this connection, she mentioned that the government distributed textbooks among students, but they cannot attend their classes as the BNP-Jamaat alliance is creating obstacles through blockade and hartal programmes. ‘The BNP-Jamaat alliance on one hand is killing people, including children, through arson attacks and trying to create obstacles towards holding SSC exams on the other,’ the prime minister said. Requesting all to join hands in building the country as prosperous one to raise its head high at global stage, she said, ‘We want a prosperous future, we want a peaceful country, no one will be able to stop the advancement of Bangladesh as the country is marching ahead and it will march forward surely.’ Terming children the future leaders of the country,

Hasina urged them to build them as ideal persons. ‘You’ll lead Bangladesh in the future, so you’ll have to acquire all the qualities to be the golden sons of the soil so that you can lead the country to live with dignity in the world,’ she said. She urged every child to acquire good moral character and be a person of strong mentality as the present government has taken all measures to provide standard education to the children as well as creating all facilities for their physical and mental growth. The Prime Minister inspected a parade and took salute from the children came from different 46 educational institutions and organisations. She also witnessed a spectacular march past and colorful physical displays presented by the children. The gallery of Bangabandhu National Stadium was tastefully decorated with the portraits of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bir Shresthas and natural beauty of Bangladesh. Earlier, the prime minister formally opened the rally through hoisting the national flag while the national anthem was played. She also released balloons and pigeons. Liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Huq was present at the programme while deputy commissioner of Dhaka Tofazzal Hossain Miah delivered the vote of thanks.
