Emajuddin demands army a week before city polls

Adarsha Dhaka Andolan convener Emajuddin Ahmed on Friday demanded the deployment of army a week before the elections of Dhaka and Chittagong city corporations, scheduled for April 28. The former Dhaka University vice-chancellor and an adviser to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia said that the voters will get the courage to cast their ballots for their desired candidates if the army is deployed. Emajuddin, at a discussion in the National Press Club, urged the Election Commission to create a friendly environment so that the voters can smoothly cast their votes and the candidates can woo their support before the polls respectively. BNP-backed Adarsha Dhaka Andolan on Thursday decided to back Tabith Awal in Dhaka north city corporation mayoral elections and Mirza Abbas in the Dhaka south.
