Fresh landslides kill six more

Fresh landslides due to heavy rain killed six more people in Rangamati, Khagrachari and Moulavibazar on Sunday.
Of the six victims, three died in Khagrachari, two in Moulvibazar and one in Rangamti.
Two others, injured in the rain-triggered landslide in Rangamati on June 13, succumbed to their injuries at hospitals on Sunday, raising death toll from landslides in the hill district to 115 since June 12. 
Earlier on June 14, another one was killed in landslide in Khagrachari.
The combined death toll from landslides rose to 166 in Rangamati, Khagrachari, Bandarban, Chittagoing, Cox’s Bazar and Moulvibazar since June 12.
Khagrachari and Rangamati district administrations and Chittagong City Corporation asked people to evacuate their homes on slop and foot of risky hills fearing further landslides following heavy rain on Sunday.
New Age correspondents reported that many were still living on slop and foot of risky hills ignoring the call made by administrations using public announcement system. 
New Age correspondent in Moulvibazar, quoting Baralekha police station officer-in-charge Shahidur Rahman, reported that rain-triggered landslide in hilly area of Dimai under Baralekh upazila early Sunday killed two local residents – Achhia Begum, 45, and Tahmina Begum, 13.
They died at their house when a big chunk of mud from a hillock fell on their corrugated iron sheet-roofed house on the foot of the hillock at about 3:00am, Shahidur said.
Landslides also damaged 10-15 houses at Dimai leaving several people injured, he said.
It was raining heavily in Moulvibazar district till
Sunday evening.
Srimangal Met Office recorded 99.3mm rainfall in the district in the past 24 hours till 6:00am on Sunday, said met officials Harunur Rashid.
New Age correspondent in Khagrachari reported that three children, including two siblings, were killed in two fresh landslides in the district on Sunday.
The victims were Md Nur Hossain, 14, and Md Nur Nabi, 10, sons of Md Mostafa Mia of Budangchhara under Ramgar upazila and Iton Chakma, 7, son of Debbrata Chakma of Jatindra Karbaripara under Lakshmichari upazila, officials said.
The siblings died at about 5:00am and Iton died at about 8:00am when big chunks of mud from the hill fell on their homes, built at the foot of hills. 
The district and upazila administration launched drives to evacuate people from the risky hill slops and foots, said Khagrachari upazila nirbahi officer Elish Sharmin.
The district town witnessed rain throughout the day.
New Age correspondent in Rangamati reported that fresh landslides were seen at places in the district leaving a minor girl dead while two critically injured people succumbed to their injuries at hospitals on Sunday.
The fresh landslides occurred at Junomachhara and at Muralipara under Kaptai and Kawkhali upazilas early Sunday. 
Boishakhi Chakma, 6, daughter of Amar Shanti Chakma of Junomachhara died in a landslide Sunday morning, local people said. 
Executive magistrate Khondaker Mohammed Iktyer Uddin Arafat, also in-charge of control room at deputy commissioner’s office, however, could not confirm the death. 
He said that of critically injured landslide victims, one died at Rangamati Sadar Hospital and another at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday.
He said that the district administration was yet to finalise the list of affected people and damaged houses. 
Most of the people at shelters were suffering from waterborne diseases like diarrhoea.
Md Zakir and Tania Akhter at Bangaldesh Open University office shelter said that their kids were suffering from diarrhoea. 
A mobile medical team is giving treatment to the affected people in the town.
Engineers of Bangladesh Army and roads and highways department are working on Chittagong-Rangamati and Rangamati-Khagrachari roads to restore road communications with the hill district, said Major Tanvir Saleh of Rangamati region headquarter. 
Different areas of Barkal, Jurachari, Bilaichari, Nannerchar, Baghaichari and Langadu upazilas were affected by flash flood that damaged houses and crops.
