Two children among four killed in Cox’s Bazar landslides

At least four people, including two children, were killed and four others injured in separate incidents of landslide triggered by heavy rain in Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday.

Cox’s Bazar Met office said they recorded 208mm of rainfall in last 24 hours till 6:00am on Tuesday.

The landslide that occurred at Kaimmarghuna Pahartali in Ramu upazila around 1:00am, left Md Jishan, 4, and Saima Akter, 3, offspring of Ziaur Rahman, critically injured.

Zia and his wife also got injured in the incident.

Dakkhin Mithachhari union parishad chairman Md Yunus Bhuttu said locals recued and rushed them to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital where physicians declared the children dead.

Another landslide took place at Lighthousepara in Cox’s Bazar town around 1:30am, leaving two young men dead on the spot and two others injured.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar police officer-in-charge Ranjit Kumar Barua confirmed the news of deaths.

The deceased were identified as Md Hasan, 24, and Md Shahed, 22, residents of Sadar upazila. They used to work in a hotel in the town.

Injured two others were sent to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital.

Earlier on Friday, five members of a family, including three children, died in a landslide at Jungle Salimpur of Sitakunda in Chittagong.

In June, rain-triggered landslides claimed around 170 lives in several hilly districts in the country.
