Siddiqur to fly to Chennai today

Titumir College student Siddiqur Rahman, injured in the eyes in police action on student protests at Sahbagh in Dhaka on July 20, is scheduled for today to fly to Chennai in India for medical treatment.
Siddiqur’s sustained critical injuries in both the eyes as, according to video footage, a cop fired a tear gas shell directly at his face from close range during the protests the students of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University at Shahbagh in the city on July 20 for exam schedule.
The police, however, in the first information report claimed that Siddiqur was injured as a flower tub thrown by students targeting police crushed into his face. 
Siddiqur was admitted to National Institute of Ophthalmology.
Institute’s associate professor for glaucoma Iftekhar Md Munir, under whom Siddiqur was being treated, said Wednesday evening that the condition of Siddiqur’s eyes remained unchanged.
‘He cannot see out of his right eye and sometimes can see ‘light’ from a side of the left eye,’ said Iftekhar.
He said that Siddiqur would fly to India today.
‘Let’s see what happens after his treatment abroad,’ Iftekhar added.
Siddiqur’s brother Nayeb Ali said that he would accompany his brother in India.
‘The government assured us of bearing all the expenses for Siddiqur’s treatment,’ he said.
He said that they did not receive the passport and visas till Wednesday evening.
The health ministry on Monday said that the government would take Siddiqur to Chennai for his treatment.
