Four of a family among five killed in Chittagong road accident

Five people, including four members of a family, were killed in a road accident in front of the Toll Plaza of Shah Amanat Bridge at Karnaphuli in Chittagong city early Sunday.

Officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli police station Rafiqul Islam said Sohel, 37, a resident of Karnaphuli area, was returning home along with his wife Bilkis, 32, their children Sharmin, 5, and Sabbir, 3, riding on Compressed Natural Gas-run auto-rickshaw after attending a marriage ceremony in the city at night.   

When they stopped before the Toll Plaza to pay toll, a speeding bus rammed the three-wheeler around 12:00am, leaving the four members of the family dead on the spot and the auto-rickshaw driver, Suruj Miah, 55, injured. 

Suruj died on the way to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital. 

Police seized the bus, but its driver and his assistant managed to flee the spot, said the police official.
