Low turns into land depression, signal 3 continues at seaports

The well-marked low over coastal areas of Bangladesh, West Bengal and adjoining northwest bay has moved slightly north-northwestwards and intensified into a land depression.

It was centred at 9:00am on Monday over Gangetic West Bengal, Bangladesh and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, said a Met office bulletin this morning.

It is likely to intensify and move in a northwesterly direction further inland.

Under its influence deep convection is continuing over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three.

Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

Due to well-marked low over coastal areas of Bangladesh, West Bengal and adjoining northwest bay, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at places over Khulna, Barisal and Rajshahi divisions and the regions of Faridpur and Madaripur during next 24 hours commencing 9:30am  today, said the bulletin.
