The Indian Border Security Force shot a Bangladeshi cattle trader dead and injured another one on Burimari border at Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat early Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Farid Uddin, 22, son of Shamsul Haq, a resident of village Upharmara under the upazila.

The victim’s fellow, Akkas Ali, 24, of the same village, was admitted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital with bullet-wounds.

Locals and Border Guard Bangladesh battalion-61 in Rangpur said a group of 12 to 15 Bangladeshi cattle traders went to the demarcation pillar number 843 on the border around 3:30am to bring cattle heads.

BSF members of 61-BS Bari camp in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal, India, opened fire on them leaving Farid dead on the spot and Akkas bullet-wounded.

Akkas managed to flee the scene and admitted to the hospital.

The BSF personnel took the body of Farid to their camp.

Major Mehedi Hasan, director of BGB battalion-61, confirmed the news of death by BSF firing.

A letter over holding a flag meeting and requesting to return the body was sent to the BSF, but it was yet to respond, he said.
