BDR CARNAGE Fair probe needed to resolve many questions: Fakhrul

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said that why the intelligence agency failed to inform about soldiers mutiny in the then Bangladesh Rifles, who benefited from it and who tried to destroy the country’s security system needed to be identified through a fair and neutral investigation.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader said this while addressing the special national council session of the Jatiya Ganotantrik Party, a component of BNP-led alliance, at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Mentioning the observation the High Court made in its Monday verdict that the motive for the February 25-26 BDR mutiny was to embarrass or fail the government, Fakhrul asked whether it was staged to fail Bangladesh.
He asked who benefited from the killing of 57 brilliant army officers and who wanted to break the country’s security system and break down morale of the Bangladesh army.
These matters have to find out through fair and neutral investigation, Fakhrul said.
He alleged that fair and neutral investigation to the carnage did not take place.
Fakhrul asked why the intelligence agency had failed to inform before the mutiny, why quick necessary measures were not taken, why the reports of investigation committee of army and the government probe committee on BDR carnage were not published yet.
A bench of three judges of the High Court on Monday  made  some observations  in the verdict on death reference and appeals  against  trial court’s verdict in the BDR carnage.
The BNP secretary general alleged that attempts are being made in planned way and consciously to turn Bangladesh a ‘failed state.’
He also criticised the acquittal of local Awami League leader Torab Ali saying that under his leadership meeting was held with local lawmaker over the demands of the BDR soldiers.
He alleged that BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu was implicated in the case and was sent to jail and ‘killed’ in jail.
He said that a ‘constitutional crisis’ was created as no chief justice was yet appointed after ‘forced’ resignation of chief justice SK Sinha.
Referring to AL lawmaker Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir’s resignation as chairman Farmers Bank chairman, he said that Mohiuddin Khan was compelled to resign at the directive of the Bangladesh Bank.
Presided over by acting JAGPA president Rehana Prodhan, the function was also addressed by former Dhaka University vice-chancellor Emajuddin Ahamed and National Peoples’ Party chairman Fariduzzaman Farhad .
