Health minister Mohammed Nasim on Sunday told Jatiya Sangsad that birth registrations of infants born in Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar were going on.
Replying to a starred question of treasury bench member Momotaz Begam, the health minister in a scripted answer said that Bangladesh Army in biometric system and the UNHCR with cooperation of the Bangladesh government were conducting the birth registration activities.
He said that the government had taken up a massive programme for quickly bringing the Rohingya children under vaccination.
The minister said that activities of regular vaccination to all Rohingya children according to schedule of Expanded Programme on Immunisation were continuing since November 18, 2017.
Nasim said that one dose of MR vaccine was provided to all Myanmar citizens (in Rohingya camps) of 06 months to 15 years of age to check outbreak of measles and one dose of BOPV vaccine was given to all children of 0-59 months since September 14, 2017.
He added that one dose of cholera vaccine was administered to all children above one year from October 1 to October 16 last year.
Replying to an unstarred question of Mahjabeen Khaled, the health minister said that 3,601 cases were field in mobile courts against various institutions across the country for manufacturing and selling adulterated and duplicate drugs and over Tk 8.35 crore was realised in fines from January 2016 to December 2017.
He said that 73 accused were sentenced to different prison terms, 51 institutions were sealed while medicines worth around Tk 19 crore were confiscated and destroyed.
The minister informed that 55 cases were filed in drug courts and 81 cases were filed in magistrate courts against different institutions from January 2016 to December 2017 for manufacturing and selling adulterated and duplicate drugs.
Nasim said that the drug administration directorate and other law-enforcing agencies were always active to check marketing and selling of substandard and adulterated drugs in domestic markets at any situation for developing the drug industry and for the interest of safety of public health.
