Road management not responsible for Rajib’s accident: Quader

Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader has said there is no link of road management to the accident of Rajib.

‘The youth (Rajib) might have made a mistake. Perhaps his standing position on the bus was wrong,’ he said.

The minister said this during a question answer session with journalists after visiting a mobile court in the capital’s Hatirjheel area on Wednesday afternoon.

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority conducted the mobile court to check the violation of traffic rules in the area.

The minister alleged that a newspaper blamed road management for the accident of Rajib. But he blamed transport workers and passengers of the buses for the accident of Rajib.

‘The drivers who were driving the buses and the passengers were responsible for this accident. Awareness among drivers is also very necessary,’ he said.

Rajib Hasan, a second year student of Govt Titumir College, was going to attend his classes by a double-decker bus of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation on April 3. He was standing on the rear gate dangling his right hand outside as the bus was overcrowded.

When the bus got stranded at the Sonargaon crossing near Panthakunja Park, a Sajan Paribahan bus tried to make its way through the narrow space in between the BRTC bus and the footpath. Rajib's right hand was pressed in between the two buses and got severed from the elbow.

Being rescued, the victim was first taken to MH Samorita Hospital at Panthapath and then shifted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
