SC to give judgement Tuesday on appeals against Khaleda’s bail

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday concluded hearing on the two appeals of the government and the Anti-Corruption Commission, challenging the High Court bail order granted to Bangladesh Nationalist Party chief Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

A four-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, said that the judgement on appeals against Khaleda’s bail would be pronounced on May 15.

Earlier, the High Court heard the appeals for today.

The court heard Attorney General Mahbub Alam and ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan’s argument.

The both argued for canceling the High Court’s bail granted to Khaleda on March 12 in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case in which she was sentenced for five years.

They also prayed for speedy disposal of Khaleda’s appeal challenging her sentence by the High Court.

Khaleda filed the appeal challenging her conviction, passed by the trial court, on February 8.

On the contrary Khaleda’s lawyers AJ Mohammad Ali prayed for upholding her bail by the appellate division as there was no precedent of cancelling bail granted by the High Court.
