Khaleda applies to HC to grant bail in 3 other cases

The Appellate Division has not yet written the full verdict upholding bail granted to former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia by the High Court Division in the Zia Orphanage Trust Case.
On May 16 in a short order the apex court upheld Khaleda Zia’s bail.
In the short order the Appellate Division also dismissed separate appeals filed by the government and the Anti-Corruption Commission challenged the High Court Division’s verdict of March 12 in which four months’ bail was granted to Khaleda Zia.
On Sunday, separate applications were filed by her lawyers in the High Court Division seeking bail in two other cases both relating to arson attacks in Comilla in which the authorities had already shown her as arrested.
Her lawyers also filed another application in the High Court Division seeking bail for her in a case that alleges that by raising the question about the accuracy about 30 lakh people losing life in the Liberation War and saying the founding president of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wanted to be prime minister of Pakistan and not independence of Bangladesh.
A bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice JBM Hassan set two applications for hearing today, one relating to the case over loss of seven lives during arson attacks in Comilla and the other relating to the number of people who lost lives during the Liberation War.
The same bench would hear on Wednesday her application seeking bail in the case relating arson attack on a covered van at Chouddagram, Comilla.
Her lawyer Khandker Mahbub Hossain told reporters that she filed the bail petitions in the e High Court Division as the trial court had kept her bail petitions in files for record only to delay her release on bail.
He said that Khaleda Zia would have to apply to the HC for bail in two other cases as two magistrates Courts in Dhaka shelved her bail applications in their files as mere records.
Instead of granting bails to her in the case relating to doctoring her date of birth, a magistrate’s court directed the Gulshan police to execute the old warrant of arrest against Khaleda Zia by July 5 alleged doctoring her date of birth.
The other magistrate’s court directed the Tejgaon police station to execute the old warrant of arrest against Khaleda Zia by July 5, in the case filed against her alleging that she had shown disrespect to the national flag by appointing Jamaat leaders as ministers.
