Casualties took place where law enforcers faced obstruction: home minister

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Saturday said the government has no intention to kill anyone and the incidents of casualties in anti-drug drive have taken place where the law enforcers were obstructed.

He said law enforcers are going to people whose names are common in lists of five intelligence agencies and ensuring punishment to those who had admitted their involvement with drug dealing through mobile courts or regular courts.

Just a single allegation came about the ongoing anti-drug drive and it has been taken care of. None would be spared if found guilty, he said.

The minister said right now there are 83,349 inmates in jails across the country and 39 per cent of them are there in drug related cases.

The minister said the government will stop the drug menace totally whatever it takes.

Asaduzzman was speaking at a seminar at Bangladesh Institute of Strategic Studies in Dhaka.
