COMILLA COVERED VAN BURNING Appellate Div decision on Khaleda’s bail today

The Appellate Division said Sunday that today it would give a decision on government’s petition seeking cancellation of bail granted to former prime minister and BNP chairman Khaleda Zia by the High Court Division in a case relating to burning a covered van at Chouddagra, Comilla on January 25, 2015 during the countrywide non-stop blockade called by BNP.
A three-judge bench chaired by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain set the schedule after hearing the government’s petition seeking permission to appeal against the High Court’s order.
The Appellate Division was scheduled to give its decision on Monday but rescheduled it for today after attorney general Mahbubey Alam expressed his inability to remain present in the court if the decision was given on Monday.
On Sunday, the Appellate Division said that on July 2 it would give decision on government’s another petition seeking cancellation of bail granted to Khaleda Zia by the High Court Division in another case relating to burning a bus at Chouddagram during the same blockade in 2015.
On May 31, the Appellate Division stayed the bails granted by the High Court Division in both the cases.
The stay would remain in place until the government’s petitions against the High Court Division’s order were disposed of by the Appellate Division.
Khaleda’s lawyers moved the HC for her bail as the trial courts were sitting on her bail applications.
