RAIFA’S DEATH Max Hospital sacks two accused doctors

Two, of the three accused doctors, were sacked from Max Hospital in Chittagong on Friday night following the death of Raifa Khan at the hospital on June 29, as the probe committee found them responsible for the child’s death.
The sacked doctors are Debashish Sen Gupta and Shuvro Deb; they were involved in the treatment and their negligence caused Raifa’s death.
Max Hospital managing director Md Liaqat Ali Khan said that the hospital authorities took the decision after the probe committee, formed by the government to investigate the death of Raifa Khan, found the evidence of negligence in her treatment.
The probe committee, led by Chittagong civil surgeon, also identified child specialist Bidhan Roy Chowdhury responsible for the child’s death; so the hospital authorities decided not to call him to the hospital, the hospital MD said.
Liaqat also said that the hospital authorities formed a separate probe committee following Raifa’s death.
As per the report of both the probe committees, they took the decision, he added.
Raifa Khan, 3, daughter of journalist Rubel Khan, died at Max Hospital in Chittagong because of wrong treatment.
