CTG PVT HOSPITALS, CLINICS Massive irregularities unearthed in Ctg hospitals

Date expired medicines and instruments in operation theatre, test report deception, fake signs on test reports, pharmacies without licence and many more irregularities were disclosed in a daylong drive on Sunday from two private hospitals in Chittagong.
Meanwhile, in protest at the drive, owners of private hospitals and clinics in Chittagong called an indefinite strike, causing sufferings to service seekers. 
The drive was conducted jointly by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7, Directorate General of Drug Administration and Directorate General of Health Services.
They conducted drive at Max Hospital at Mehedibagh and CSCR at Prabartak intersection from 11:00am till 7:30pm.
RAB 7 magistrate Sarwoer Alam, who led the drive, fined Max Hospital Tk 10 lakh and CSCR Tk 4 lakh for different irregularities and warned them to bring effective correction in 15 days otherwise they would shut down the hospitals.
He told New Age that date-expired medicines were found in the operation theatre of Max Hospital. 
In many of the reports prepared at the hospital lab were found with fake signatures of specialist doctors. 
The lab on the 2nd floor does not have skilled pathologist, no microbiologist while nurses without diploma have been providing health care services. 
RAB 7 assistant director (media) Mimtanur Rahman said, ‘Following different allegations of irregularities and public harassment in the private hospitals and clinics, we have conducted the drive. It is part of their regular activity.’
License of Max hospital’s pharmacy expired on December16, 2016. 
Directorate of Drug administration Chittagong superintendent Gulshan Zahan said that Max Hospital was running their pharmacy without licence for last few years. 
In another drive at CSCR, pharmacy without licence and date-expired instruments were found.
Drug administration superintendent Gulshan said the hospital had two pharmacies — one on the ground floor and the other on 6th floor and the 6th floor pharmacy had no licence.
Besarkari Chikitsha Pratishthan Malik Samiti on Sunday afternoon called strike at private hospitals and clinics in Chittagong. 
The Samiti president, Abul Kashem, said that the services of pathologies and diagnostic centres would be also shut down. ‘But who are undergoing treatment will get the health care services,’ he said.
The Chittagong chapter of Bangladesh Medical Association, however, said they had no link with the decision of the owners. 
In a press statement, Consumers Association Bangladesh, Chittagong chapter expressed deep concern over the sudden decision of the doctors.
During the drive, a good number of private hospitals and clinics in the nearby areas were seen either closed and some were seen shutting their entrance. 
Gatekeeper Sobuj of Metropolitan Hospital told New Age they had closed the hospital. 
Royal Hospital’s gate was also found closed. 
On June 29, minor girl Raifa Khan, 3, daughter of journalist Rubel Khan died for medical negligence at Max Hospital.
Three probe committees were formed which identified carelessness of doctors and medical negligence behind Raifa’s death.
As per the probe report on Friday, the Max Hospital authorities expelled two accused doctors.
