Police officer killed in Dhaka road mishap

A Dhaka Metropolitan Police officer was killed as a speedy bus of Eagle Paribahan hit his motorcycle at Rainkhola under Shah Ali Police Station in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Uttam Kumar Sarkar, 35, a sub-inspector of Rupnagar Police Station of the metropolitan police, of Paschim Beddoba under Kalihati upazila in Tangail and he used to live in the capital’s Shyamoli area, according to his colleague sub-inspector Azizur Rahman of Rupnagar Police Station.
Shah Ali Police Station’s sub-inspector Shiuli Akhter said that the Eagle Paribahan bus hit Uttam’s motorcycle from back at Rainkhola at about 4:30pm while he was on his way to workplace from his residence.
He died on the spot, she said.
She said police seized the bus and arrested its driver and helper from the spot.
The police station officer-in-charge Akhteruzzaman Ilias said that the bus driver was not a professional one.
He, however, could not say the detailed identity of the driver.
