ACC sues SP Mizan, wife

The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday filed two cases against superintendent of police Mizanur Rahman and his wife Salma Akter Nipa on charge of accumulating illegal wealth.
ACC assistant director M Faruk Ahmed filed the cases with Tejgaon police saying that Mizan accumulated illegal wealth worth Tk 1.17 crore and his wife Nipa accumulated illegal wealth worth Tk 2.32 crore, ACC secretary M Shamsul Arfeen told reporters.
According to the complaint, ACC found a house and 13.8 acre land in Mizan’s name at his village in Tungipara of Gopalganj, two flats in the capital’s Tejkunipara, a shop in Jurain area, 15 decimals land in Mirpur, and a three-katha plot in Uttara.
The inquiry also found Tk 91.12 lakh in his bank account, fixed deposit receipts of Tk 75 lakh and shears of Tk two lakh in a fertiliser factory.
The ACC found a three-story building and a shop in name of Nipain in the capital’s Mirpur area while she also owner of a two-story building, 77 decimals land in Keraniganj, a flat in Tejkunipara, 5.38 acre land in Tungipara.
ACC officials said that Mizan allegedly used at least 60 police personnel, including sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors and constables to build his luxury house on an 84-decimal plot at Hemayetpur.
Mizan also used his subordinates to build two other houses, one in Mirpur and another in Narsingdi, they said.
Mizan used police vehicles for all his construction activities, they said.
They said that the police service rule prohibits the use of subordinates or police transports for such personal activities.
They said that in 2012, under pressure from ‘unknown quarters’ Mizan was given clean chit by the ACC and the investigation officers submitted reports saying no illegal wealth of Mizan was found.
On January 9, Mizan was withdrawn from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and attached to the police headquarters.
