AL confirms candidates for 230 seats

The ruling Awami League on Sunday confirmed its nominations for 230 of the 300 constituencies for the 11th parliamentary elections scheduled for December 30.
The party candidates started collecting certificates of their nomination signed by AL president Sheikh Hasina, also the prime minister, from its central office on the Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka.
Awami League kept the rest 70 seats for its allies, party leaders said.
The Jatiya Party faction led by HM Ershad, the Jatiya Jukta Front led by AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury and some other Islamist parties would be in the greater electoral alliance of the Awami League along with the AL-led alliance
AL general secretary Obaidul Quader inaugurated the distribution of the certificates of nomination in the morning.
At a briefing at the political office of the party president Dhanmandi-3, Obaidul Quader said that candidates for 230 seats were already selected and many of them were already collecting the certificates of nomination from the party’s central office. 
He, however, refused to provide the list of selected party candidates. 
He said that the party would make public all the 300 candidates of the alliance on Monday keeping a provision of bring about changes, if required, to the list of candidates by the November 28 deadline for submission of nomination papers.
Of the prominent AL leaders dropped from the party nomination, finance minister Abdul Maal Abdul Muhith was replaced by his younger brother AK Abdul Momen for Sylhet 1, joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak was overtaken by Dhaka north city AL leader Sadek Khan for Dhaka 13, joint general secretary Abdur Rahman was replaced by Monzur Hossain for Faridpur 1 while organising secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim was replaced by Abdus Sobhan Golap for Madaripur 3 constrituency.
Besides, BM Mozammel Haque was replaced by Iquebal Hossain Apu for Shariatpur 1.
The party also dropped sitting lawmakers Abdur Rahman Bodi of Cox’s Bazar 4 and Amanur Rahman Rana of Tangail 4 for their reported crime records. Bodi was replaced by his wife Shahin Akter Chowdhury for Cox’s Bazar 4 while Amanur was replaced by his father Hasan Imam Khan for Tangail 3.
Hasina had earlier announced that she would drop some party lawmakers from nominations who had tarnished the image of the party.

The AL left more than one seat vacant in Munshiganj, where Bikala Dhara president Babdruddoza Chowdhry and his son Mahi B Chowdhury demanded nominations from the alliance.

Awami League had sold 4,023 nomination forms to the aspirants.
The 11-member party parliamentary board headed by Hasina finalised the party nominations. 
New Age correspondents in Barishal and Mymensingh reported that in some constituencies in the two districts supporters of AL leaders deprived of nomination staged protests.
