City in holiday hangover as rain continues

The city suffers a festival hangover, on the first day of opening, as the weather remained rainy in most part of the country.
Most of the small establishments were shut and that presence of employees was thin in banks and other financial institutions.
‘Most of the apparel factories are closed and that workers will come back to their jobs next week,’ said an official of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
The apparel factories enjoy a longer holiday as workers sacrifice their weekends ahead of any large festival, such as, Eid-ul-Fitr, the official added.
Commuter buses were plying amid smooth traffic across the city.
Muslims of Bangladesh celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on July 18, the largest religious festival. A 3-day holiday from 17th July to 19th July was observed across the country.
The meteorology department said monsoon trough was active in most part of the sky across Bangladesh and that all divisions may have moderate to heavy rainfall today.
