2020-2021 to be celebrated as Mujib Year: PM

The year 2020-21 has been declared as Mujib Year marking the birth centenary of country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and golden jubilee celebrations of the independence of Bangladesh, prime minister Sheikh Hasina told the parliament on Wednesday.
In response to Awami League lawmaker Asim Kumar Ukil’s question, the prime minister told the house that different programmes have been chalked out to celebrate Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary in 2020 and fifth anniversary of the independence of the country in a row.
In response to a question of another AL lawmaker Mahmud Us Samad regarding teaching Sheikh Mujib’s historic March 7 speech in classrooms, Hasina told the parliament that considering the age of the pupils, histories of the Language Movement and liberation war and glorious leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman have been incorporated in the textbooks from pre-primary to grade XII.
With due importance, the biography and ideology of the founder of the nation Sheikh Mujib and histories of the language movement, War of the Independence, spirit of the war and history and tradition of Bengalis have been included in the textbooks of the primary and secondary schools, the prime minister said.
In the Bangla textbook for the VIII students the text of Sheikh Mujib’s historic March 7 speech has been included, said the prime minister, adding that parts from Sheikh Mujib’s incomplete autobiography have been included in Bangladesher Itihash O Biswa Shabhyata and ‘Pouranity O Nagorikata’ texts for grade IX-X students.
Similar topics have also been included in the textbooks for madrassah and vocational training students, the prime minister said.
