Two infants burnt dead in Bhashantek fire

Firefighters recovered the charred bodies of two infants as they died in a slum fire in the city’s Bhashantek area on Thursday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet, said Ershad Hossain, the duty officer at Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.

The fire broke out at the shanty around 1:30 am and spread around soon, he said.

On information, 21 firefighting units went to the spot and extinguished the blaze around 3 am.

Later in the day, firefighters recovered the two charred bodies, said Ershad.

Sabbir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Bhashantek Police Station, said some one thousand shanties were gutted in the fire.

However, the origin of the fire could not be known yet, the official said.
