‘Alor Ferrywala’ Palan Sarkar no more

Ekushey Padak winner Palan Sarkar, who used to distribute books for free of cost among people, passed away on Friday.

The 98-year-old was suffering from old-age complications.

He died at his village home at Bausha of Bagha upazila.

‘My father was surrounded by his family at the time of his death,’ his son Haider Ali said.

Palan Sarkar, who started a social movement of book reading, was affectionately called ‘Alor Ferrywala’, the distributor of light.

He won the Ekushey Padak, Bangladesh’s second-highest civilian award, for his works.
