Home ministers’ meeting postponed over Indian polls

The home minister-level meeting between Bangladesh and India, scheduled for this week in New Delhi, was postponed because of Indian national election, officials said on Monday.
Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das called on home minister Asaduzzaman Khan at the ministry and formally informed him about the postponement.
Asaduzzaman told New Age that the high commissioner conveyed the message of his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh that the talks would not be held now.
It was also mentioned that Rajnath Singh was busy in electioneering and a suitable date would be set after the elections, the minister said.
The 2019 Indian general election is scheduled to be held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19 to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha. The counting of votes will be conducted on 23 May, and on the same day the results will be announced.
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka on their official twitter stated ‘Issues of mutual interest were discussed in the meeting (08.04.2019)’.
In July 2018, Indian home minister Rajnath Singh visited Bangladesh and invited Asaduzzaman to visit New Delhi to follow their agendas of mutual interest.
