Nothing negative in proposed budget: Obaidul

Terming the proposed budget for 2019-20 fiscal year a pro-people and positive one, ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said that there was nothing negative in it. 

Addressing a post-budget press conference at the AL president’s office at Dhanmondi in Dhaka, Obaidul said that the proposed budget would expedite the socio-economic development and economic growth of the country.

He also said that the proposed budget was the budget for the welfare of the people and it would further strengthen the economy and make it sustainable.

On Thursday, finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed Tk 5,23,190 crore national budget for the next fiscal in parliament.

Obaidul, also the road transport and bridges minister, said that the proposed budget was realistic, balanced, pro-people and consistent with the Awami League’s election manifesto.

He said that the proposed budget was a roadmap for the nation’s journey towards being a middle-income country by 2021.

He said that the government was working uncompromisingly to implement the plans maintaining the continuity and in line with the Delta Plan.

He said a work plan has been taken in the budget to bring the private sector under the pension scheme and proposed giving incentives on the remittance of expatriates.

Terming the budget a humanitarian one, the minister said it has proposed to give allowances to the people with disabilities.

Responding a question about Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s reaction on the budget that people would reject the proposed budget, Quader said that BNP was falsifying and spreading propaganda.

The party joint general secretary Dipu Moni, organising secretaries Ahmed Hossain and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, cultural affairs secretary Asim Kumar Ukil and liberation war affairs secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, among others, were present at the press briefing.
