YOUTH STABBED DEAD IN BROAD DAYLIGHT No mercy for Barguna killers, say ministers after PM’s order

Home minister Asaduzamman Khan on Thursday said there would be no mercy for those who hacked Barguna youth Rifat Sharif to death in broad day light on Wednesday.

Two of the murder accused had already been arrested and police was not sitting idle after the murder, said the minister. The remaining accused would also be arrested soon, he said.

‘Investigations will reveal why this incident took place. But it is pathetic,’ said  Asaduzzman at a function organised by the Bangladesh Police Women Network at International Convention Centre in Chattogram.

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, at his office in Dhaka told journalists that prime minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered to arrest the killers of Rifat immediately and bring them under trial.

Obadiul, however, said that murders in broad daylight were isolated incidents and they did not indicate deterioration of law and order in Bangladesh. Similar incidents taken place in developed countries too, he said. ‘Bangladesh is not an isolated island… Various social unrests were behind such incidents.’ Obaidul was of the opinion that the murder of Rifat in Barguna was barbaric and tragic and linked to his personal affairs.
