BNP gained nothing from joining JS: Manna

Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna on Saturday said BNP gained nothing by joining parliament where MPs were always busy flattering the prime minister.

‘Parliament members start praising the leader (Hasina) just after taking the floor. The way they talk in the House that means that it’s only Sheikh Hasina who deserves to be admired. The person (PM) who is admired also laughs dimly. We’re watching such circuses and caricatures regularly,’ he said.

Speaking at a discussion, the Nagorik Oikya chief also said those who think of carrying out a struggle in parliament instead of on the street, they actually are not fit for any movement.

Shaheed Zia Smriti Parishad, a pro-BNP platform, arranged the discussion at the National Press Club.

Manna, also a top leader of Jatiya Oikya Front, said their alliance MPs who joined parliament as part of their movement only get two minutes to speak up. ‘One minute later they get their microphone switched off. It’s not possible to carry out the movement this way.’

He said a street movement is now a must to restore democracy and free the nation from the suffocating situation. ‘It takes 10-30 years in deferent countries to restore democracy. The sooner we can take to the streets the sooner democracy will be restored.’

The Oikya Front leader also urged their alliance partners to get ready by reorganising their parties for waging a strong movement.
