Ershad given 8 bags of blood after dialysis

Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad was given eight bags of blood in six hours following a dialysis he underwent on Friday dawn at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital, said Ershad’s personal secretary and also a JP presidium member Khaled Akhter.

‘His blood group is B-positive. The donors are requested to contact the Dhaka CMH,’ he said as Ershad, who was on life support, urgently required blood.

Ershad started taking dialysis as his kidneys were not functioning, Khaled said, adding that he was not even in a position to be taken abroad for better treatment.

‘He has been on life support since Thursday afternoon,’ he said.

Special supplication was made for Ershad after the Friday prayers in many mosques across the country, JP leaders said.

Ershad’s wife and also a JP senior co-chairperson after visiting Ershad on Thursday requested everybody to pray for him.

The 89-year-old former military dictator, now leader of the opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament), Ershad has been ill for quite some time and was admitted to the CMH on June 22.

He has been suffering from myelodysplastic syndromes and several other complications in his lungs, liver and kidneys.
