Obaidul questions Menon’s integrity

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said that no conversation on behalf of the party or the government took place with Workers Party of Bangladesh president Rashed Khan Menon so far over his claim that people could not vote in December 30 general election.

At a press conference at his ministry, Obaidul, also the road transport and bridges minister, asked whether Menon would have raised this question if he were a minister.

It was not clear yet whether Menon was misquoted, Quader added.

‘And, if he said so, then why it was after so long time? The elections took place a long time ago,’ Obaidul said.

Menon, at the district unit Worker Party conference at Ashwini Kumar Hall in Barishal on Saturday, said people could not cast their votes in the national election on December 30, 2018.

‘I was elected in the elections. I am testifying that the people could not cast their votes in the elections. They could not cast their votes in the elections of the Union Parishads and Upazila Parishads,’ said Menon, also an MP of 11th parliament and a former minister.

The December 30, 2018 election was marred by intimidation of voters, massive ballot stuffing, and violence.
