SSC Results Record students get GPA 5

The combined pass rate and the number of the Grade Point Average 5 obtainers in Secondary School Certificate and its equivalent examinations this year have increased compared to the last year’s results.  

The results published on Sunday showed that the combined pass rate in 2020 stood at 82.87 per cent which was 82.20 per cent in 2019.

A record number of 1,35,898 students secured GPA5 this year, which is 30,304 more than the total number of the highest grade achievers in 2019.

Number of the GPA5 obtainers in 2019 was 1,05,594, in 2018 was 1,10,629, in 2017 was 1,04,768 and it was 1,09,761 in 2016.

The number of students appeared in the SSC and equivalent examinations in 2020 was 20,40,028 which was 87,787 less than the total 21,27,815 SSC examinees of 2019.

In 2020, a total of 3,023 institutes achieved 100 per cent pass rate which was 2,583 in 2019 while no student of 104 institutes passed this year when the number of such institute in 2019 was 107.

Education minister Dipu Moni in her online briefing from her office amid the coronavirus outbreak claimed that the data reflected the overall improvement in the quality of education.

‘Instructions were passed to the examiners not to overvalue or undervalue the answer scripts,’ said the minister, claiming that no question paper leakage was reported during the examinations held from February 3 to March 8.

This year, 1,155 students were expelled when the number was 1,036 in 2019.

‘For less number of irregular students, the number of students in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations declined,’ Dhaka education board chairman Professor Md Ziaul Haque told New Age.

Earlier, prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, formally published the results from her official Ganabhaban residence.

The prime minister said the educational institutions would be opened gradually with the improvement of the coronavirus situation.

Once again, girls outshined boys in the combined results as 84.10 per cent girls passed and 81.63 per cent boys came out successfully this year, she added.

Of the nine general education boards, Rajshahi education board has the highest 90.37 per cent pass rate followed by Jashore board with 87.21 per cent pass rate.

Pass rate of Dhaka board is 82.34 per cent, while 84.75 per cent in Chattogram, 85.22 per cent in Cumilla, 80.13 per cent in Mymensingh, 82.73 per cent in Dinajpur, 78.79 per cent in Sylhet, and  79.70 per cent in Barishal.

The success rate is 94.54 per cent for science, 84.80 per cent for business studies and 76.39 per cent for humanities groups.

In 2019, the success rate was 94.72 per cent for science, 83.03 per cent for business studies and 74.32 per cent for humanities groups.

Madrassah Education Board has 82.31 per cent pass rate while the Technical Education Board has the lowest pass rate of 72.20 per cent.

In 2019, the madrassah board had 83.03 per cent pass rate while the technical board had 72.24 per cent pass rate.

A total of 336 students took part in the exams at the centres abroad, and 318 passed.

The highest number of 36,047 students obtained GPA5 are from Dhaka board followed by Rajshahi board with 26,167 GPA5 achievers.  

Dipu Moni thanked the officials concerned and Bangladesh post office for their contributions to publish the results despite the coronavirus constraints.

She requested everybody to celebrate the results maintaining the health ministry guidelines for avoiding the COVID19 infection risk.

‘College admission tests would be announced after the resumption of normalcy,’ she said.

The education boards had earlier instructed students not to gather at the education institutes to get results or for celebrations.

The SSC and equivalent results were published on the websites of the education boards and were distributed among the students through mobile SMS.
