B’baria attackers must be brought to book: Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said the government is determined to ensure security of the minority community in the country.
‘The government will take stern actions against the culprits responsible for the attacks on the Hindu community in Brahmanbaria’ Quader said while addressing a discussion organised by Garo community in the city.
‘No one, who was responsible for launching the attack, would be spared. We want to maintain religious harmony in the country,’ he said.
Quader was addressing a programme organised by Wangala Udjapan Parishad at Banani Model School.
‘You never consider yourself minority, instead, think you are a citizen of the country,’ Quader, also the minister for road transport and
bridges, said.
Awami League leaders extended their sympathies whenever such an attack was launched, in the last several years.
Meanwhile, the Wangala Udjapan Parishad held a day-long festival on the school premises, attended by the people of the Garo community living in the capital.
Wangala is a post-harvest festival celebrated by the Garos. Ethnic Bangalees celebrate similar festival as Nabanna Utsab.
Chaired by Garo community leader Durjoy Toju, the office secretary of AL Abdus Sobhan Golap, Remong Arong, Jewel Arong, Henry Marak, managing director of Exim Bank, Mohammad Haider Ali, among others, addressed the
discussion.
The programme was followed by a cultural function where artistes of the Garo ethnic community performed.
The main attraction of the function was a ‘zoom dance’ (slash-and-burn dance).
The community members also set up various stalls with their ethnic foods and handicrafts.
