Six ‘robbers’ killed in ‘gunfights’

At least six suspected robbers were killed and nine others were arrested after two separate ‘gunfights’ that took place in Pabna and Faridpur, respectively, early Friday.
Four of them were killed following a gunfight between the members of Rapid Action Battalion and suspected robbers at Joynagar suburb of Ishwardi town in Pabna, RAB said. The battalion men detained three injured alleged burglars from the spot.
Two other suspected robbers were killed in an alleged inter-gang ‘gunfight’ at Chhokrikandi under Madhukhali police in Faridpur, according to Madhukhali police.
Madhukhali police raided the vicinity after the gunfight was over and detained six men.
New Age correspondent in Pabna reported that Badsha Miah, Shafiqul Islam, Monju Miah and Rustom Ali, all aged between 35 and 40, died at hospital following RAB versus robbers gunfight at Joynagar. 
Some 10 to 12 robbers, armed with firearms and local weapons stormed the Badsha Rice Mill at Joynagar around 3:00am. They confined two guards on gun points, and began loading rice sacks on one of the two trucks they drove in, RAB-12 commanding officer Shahabuddin Khan said
Shahabuddin also an additional deputy inspector general of police, said, a team of RAB raided the rice mill when suspected robbers opened gunshots on the RAB members.
He said that the RAB responded to the robbers by firing, prompting a gunfight.
Meanwhile, some of the robbers tried to flee with 338 sacks of rice when RAB members chased them. The battalion personnel also sought back up forces from other nearby RAB teams.
He said that the other RAB team waylaid the fleeing truck, about 1,500 meters off the rice mill, where the robbers and the RAB members engaged in another battle for the second time. Three were severely injured in that gunfight. 
A total of seven injured were taken to Pabna General Hospital where physicians pronounced two of them dead. Two others died in hours.
Officials said three of the wounded robbers were now undergoing medical treatment in the hospital. The price of the recovered rice is about Tk 12 lakh, according to an estimate. 
The RAB-12 commanding officer said they seized two revolvers, one pistol, some bullets, and a few of sharp weapons from the both the scenes. They also seized both the trucks.
New Age correspondent in Faridpur reported that Md Wahiduzzaman, 35, of Mechherdia under Madhukhali in Faridpur and Abul Kashem, 38, of Baliakandi in Rajbari were killed in a gunfight between two groups of robbers at Chhokrikandi around 2:30am.
The officer-in-charge of Madhukhali police, Ruhul Amin, said that a patrol police team, heard gunshots coming from a brick kiln. They rushed there, and, with the help of locals, found two bodies near the kiln.
Police sent those bodies to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for post mortem examinations.
Amin said they also recovered a shooter gun, a pistol, some bullets and machetes from the scene. 
He said police later raided the area and arrested six suspected robbers, Lutfor Rahman, 24, Riazul, 26, Bhadu Sheikh, 40, Sohel Sheikh, 24, Aslam, 26 and Rabiul Islam, 35. 
The locals said they could hear sounds of gunshots early Friday and that police recovered two bodies. They, however, could not say if the victims were robbers or not.
