Speakers for upholding political spirit of Bhashani

Political leaders said on Sunday that history of independent Bangladesh will remain incomplete unless and until political activities of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani were not discussed.
While commemorating Bhashani’s 40th death anniversary, the speakers also demanded for announcing November 17 a ‘national day.’
Born on December 12 in 1880 in Sirajganj, Bhashani died on November 17 in 1976.
The speakers urged the followers of Bhashani to uphold his ideals and spread his morale among the younger generation.
The Bhashani Front organised the commemoration at the National Press Club.
Rashed Khan Menon, president of Worker’s Party of Bangladesh and also the incumbent civil aviation and tourism minister, said, as chief guest of the programme, the name-only organisations those were capitalizing on Bhashani’s image, should now fight against feudalism, sectarian hatred and imperialism and work for the oppressed and downtrodden, what Bhashani did.
Claiming that conspiracies were being brewed by the war collaborators, he said a vested group was also trying to instigate religious fanaticism using the influx of Rohingya Muslims.
For the last couple of days, various Islamic organisations were demanding government’s green signal to welcome the Rohingya community, fleeing ethnic cleansing in Myanmar.
Persecution of Rohingya Muslims is not related with religion rather it is much interlinked with Myanmar’s protracted dispute over nationality. Therefore, the crisis should first be dealt by international actors, such as the United Nations, Menon said.
Former industry minister and the general secretary of Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal, Dilip Barua, urged the followers of Bhashani to stand united against sectarian violence in the country.
He said, a section of political parties was demeaning Bhashani by labeling him as a Pan-Islamic leader.
Bhashani was the bold voice of the oppressed across the world, Dilip said.
Chaired by the front’s chairman, Mamtaz Chowdhury, leaders and activists of Bangladesh Swadhinata Party, National Labour Party, National Congress of Bangladesh, Pragatishil Jatiyatabadi Dal, National Democratic Party and Bangladesh Islamic Party attended the discussion.
