Technical glitch in PM’s flight: MPs blast Menon

Lawmakers on Monday said that civil aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon should take responsibility of the technical glitch in the Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that was carrying the prime minister and if needed a parliamentary probe committee should be formed to unearth the truth.
Jatiya Party lawmakers Kazi Firoz Rashid, Sayed Abu Hossain and Bangladesh Nationalist Front lawmaker SM Abul Kalam Azad taking floor at the point of order after Magrib prayer break at parliament said that if the Biman flight carrying prime minister Sheikh Hasina can face technical glitch then what happens when ordinary citizens travel with the carrier.
Hasina resumed her journey for Budapest from Turkmenistan on November 27 evening, after a delay of over four hours following a technical glitch in the Biman flight she was traveling in.
The VVIP flight of the national flag carrier left Ashkabad International Airport at 6:37pm after necessary repair of the aircraft.
The Biman flight had made an emergency landing at Ashkabad International Airport around 2:15 pm following low oil pressure at its engine.
Abul Kalam Azad said that it should be probed whether the technical glitch of the flight was a ‘sabotage attempt on the life of the prime minister of the country’, adding ‘a parliamentary probe committee can be formed to investigate the matter if needed’.
Kazi Firoz said that when a flight carrying prime minister can fly in such a risky situation then everyone can assume what can happen when the ordinary people fly with the airlines.
‘Civil aviation and tourism minister should take the responsibility of the technical glitch’ he said, adding ‘the minister cannot escape the responsibility by suspending three-four Biman employees’.
‘The technical glitch made the nation ashamed in front of whole world. Prime minister is symbol of unity’, said Syed Abul Hossain.
Civil aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon on Sunday told parliament that technical glitch in a flight carrying prime minister Sheikh Hasina that started for Budapest after over four hours of unscheduled stopover at Ashkabad in Turkmenistan took place due to ‘human factor’.
‘Concerned security agency is investigating whether the human factor was negligence or sabotage’, Rashed Khan Menon said while making a statement under section 300 at the parliament.
Moin Uddin Khan Badal on the point of order said that continued influx of Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar into Bangladesh was a big problem for the country, specially for Chittagong.
‘Bangladesh should argue about creating security area in the Rakhaine province for the safety of Rohingya Muslins’ he added.
