BNP submits Khaleda’s EC proposals to Bangabhaban

Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday welcomed the president’s plan to hold talks with political parties to form a new election commission.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a news briefing at the party Naya Paltan central office said they came to know from officials of the president’s office that president Abdul Hamid would take initiative to talk with political parties on constitution of new election commission.
Earlier, around 11:15am on the day, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and vice-chairman Ruhul Alam Chowdhury went to Bangabhaban to hand over two copies of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s proposals on constituting new election commission to the president.
Brigadier General Mainur Rahman, assistant military secretary to the president, received the copies of the proposals of Khaleda, said Rizvi.
Coming out from Bangabhaban, Rizvi told reporters at Bangabhaban entrance that the president’s assistant military secretary apprised them that the president would talk to political parties after his return from abroad.
President Abdul Hamid left Dhaka for Singapore on Tuesday morning.

Khaleda placed the proposals at a city hotel on November 18.
On November 20, BNP chairperson’s private secretary ABM Abdus Sattar talked to the president’s military secretary over phone for president’s appointment for a meeting with a BNP delegation to submit the proposals.
Without getting any response, a delegation of BNP on November 23 went to Bangabhaban and submitted a letter seeking the president’s appointment.
