25 injured in Khagrachari AL-BNP clash

At least 25 people including two cops were injured as the ruling Awami League and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party clashed over placing wreaths at the memorial of freedom fighters marking the Victory Day in Khagrachari on Friday.

Witnesses said that as the processions of AL and BNP reached Shapla Chattar area of College road, leaders of the parties got into arguments over placing wreaths.

At one stage two parties clashed injuring 25 activists of both the parties.

The injured were rushed to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital.

Among the injured district BNP assistant organising secretary MN Absar was shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital as his condition was critical, said Khagrachari Sadar Hospital resident doctor Nayanmoy Tripura.

Assistant sub-inspector Md Rasel of Khagrachari police station and constable Masud were also injured.

Khagrachari police station officer-in-charge Tareq Mohammad Abdul Hannan said that police fired 10 rounds of rubber bullets to control the situation and arrested four people.

Addition police were deployed around the area to avoid further clash, he said.

Local AL and BNL leaders were blaming each other for the clash.
