Ivy says needs 5 years to complete dev works

Mayoral candidates to the Narayanganj City Corporation polls took part in a discussion at Narayanganj Club on Saturday, to highlight their election pledges.
The discussion was organised by Sushasoner Jonno Nagarik, a not-for-profit organisation. 
There, ruling Awami League candidate Selina Hayat Ivy said she completed 70 per cent development works during her current term and needed another term to complete the rest of the works.
‘I have been working in this city for the last five years. I may have committed some mistakes, but I need another term to complete the development works. I will try to address city water clogging and traffic jams’ she said. 
BNP candidate Sakhawat said he will form an advisory committee, drafting representatives from different quarters across the society to prepare a master plan to develop the city.
Meanwhile, Liberal Democratic Party nominated mayoral candidate in Narayanganj City Corporation election on Saturday retreated from the race and extended his support to Bangladesh Nationalist Party nominated candidate.
The LDP-stamped candidate, Kamal Pradhan, at a news conference at the media centre of BNP candidate in Narayanganj, announced that he had pulled him off the election and lent his support to BNP candidate Sakhawat Hossain Khan, following the instructions by the party high command. 
LDP is a member party to BNP-led alliance.
As per the Election Commission’s rule, there was no scope to withdraw candidacy officially after expiry of the scheduled date for withdrawing anyone’s candidature.
At the press conference, BNP vice chairman Hafizuddin Ahmed congratulated Kamal for his decision to quit the polls and work for BNP candidate, Sakhawat Hossain Khan.
The conference was attended, among others by, BNP chairperson’s adviser, Abdus Salam, Narayanganj unit BNP president, Taimur Alam Khandaker, BNP joint secretary general, Khairul Kabir Khokon, organising secretary, Fazlul Haque Milon and LDP senior joint secretary general, Shadat Hossain Selim.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal nominated Moslem Uddin Ahmed, Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh nominated Mahabubur Rahman Ismail, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Masub Millah, Islami Oikya Jote’s Azharul Haque and National Democratic Party’s Kamal Prodhan also attended the programme.
On Friday, the city administration imposed a ban on carrying all types of licensed firearms in Narayanganj city, beginning from December 19 to December 25. The election would be held on December 22.
‘The district administration has made the decision with a view to ensure fair and peaceful election environment,’ returning officer Nuruzzaman Talukder, said.
According to police, there are a total of 586 licensed firearms under three police stations in the district.
Of the arms, 403 belong to citizens of Sadar police station, 89 to Bandar police station and 94 to Siddhirganj police station, respectively.
