Khaleda, 13 BNP leaders prosecuted.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, was prosecuted for the crude bomb blast in an anti-blockade procession led by shipping minister Shajahan Khan at Gulshan-2 that left 20 people injured on Monday.Ruling Awami League-backed Sramik Oikya Parishad leader Ismail Hossain Bachchu field the case with Gulshan police station against 70 people naming 14 BNP leaders including Khaleda on Monday night, said Gulshan police officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam.
He said that they were investigating the case and actions would be taken shortly against people responsible for the attack.A market was vandalised and 20 people were injured as a crude bomb went off in the anti-blockade procession at Gulshan-2 on Monday afternoon, when the procession was going to lay siege to Khaleda’s Gulshan office.


In the first information report, the plaintiff named Khaleda as the mastermind of the attack.The complaint stated that Khaleda and top BNP-led alliance including BNP vice-chairmen Selima Rahman and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, chairperson’s adviser Khandker Mahbub Hossain, joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, chairperson’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan, former lawmaker Dewan Salahuddin, Mahila Dal general secretary Shirin Sultana, Khaleda’s personal assistance Shimul Biswas, former Dhaka ward commissioner Abdul Kaiyum and BNP central committee member Humayun Kabir Khan directly adn indirectly instigated and masterminded the attack.


It said that in accordance with their plan and instigation some unidentified activists of the alliance took positions in several buildings in Gulshan intersection and charged crude bombs on the procession to kill people.Earlier on February 2, Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Atiqur Rahman ordered a police inquiry into a case filed against Khaleda and three others for the death of 42 people in arson attacks during the ongoing blockade called by the BNP-led alliance.Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad president AB Siddique filed the case accusing Khaleda, BNP standing committee member Rafiqul Islam Miah, former Dhaka University vice-chancellor Emaz Uddin Ahmed and former foreign secretary Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury of ordering the killing of the 42 people.On January 25, Chauddagram police in Comilla filed a case accusing Khaleda and 31 other party activists for arson attack on a covered van and six buses in the district.


The police also field two cases with Jatrabari police station in the capital on January 24 under the Special Powers Act and the Penal Code for the arson attack on a moving bus at Demra in the city on January 23 that injured at least 29 people.Although Khaleda was not named as an accused, her name was mentioned in the first information reports that stated that Khaleda on January 5 asked alliance men to enforce blockade till the fall of the government. On her direction, 18 central BNP leaders along with some other leaders of the alliance ordered leaders and activists to carry out subversive acts at places. In accordance with their direction and planning, 32 local BNP and alliance leaders and activists set fire to a moving bus at Demra on January 23.
