Killings on border a grave concern, says PM

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said the ‘incidents of death’ of innocent Bangladeshis along the border are a matter of grave concern.
‘The death incidents of innocent Bangladeshis along the border areas are the matter of grave concern to us,’ she said.
The prime minister made the remark while addressing a parade marking the Border Guard Bangladesh Day 2016 at its headquarters at Peelkhana in the capital.
She also appreciated the role of BGB personnel in recent years to reduce the number of death incidents through strengthening friendly relations with Indian BSF.
‘The death incidents in border areas have come down to a great extent in recent years due to your efforts for strengthening friendly relations with the BSF,’ she said.
The prime minister also remembered the Peelkhana carnage that took place on February 25-26, 2009, saying, ‘We had to face abominable and instable situation like the mutiny and killings at that time.’ 
She also noted that the government faced all the conspiracies of the conspirators behind the BDR mutiny with patience and carefulness. ‘The farsighted steps that we had taken to bring discipline in the force now acclaimed internationally.’ 
Sheikh Hasina thanked the BGB personnel to extend cooperation in overcoming that crisis. ‘For your cooperation, the nation today is advancing on the path of development overcoming that crisis.’
Talking about the incidents that took place in Peelkhana on February 25-26 in 2009 a ‘black chapter’ for the nation, the prime minister said that after forming the government in January 2009 the Awami League government had to face the mutiny in the BDR. ‘We had to face abominable and instable situation like the mutiny and killings at that time.’
Sheikh Hasina also said the government faced all the conspiracies of the conspirators behind the BDR mutiny with patience and carefulness. ‘The farsighted steps that we had taken to bring discipline in the force now acclaimed internationally.’ 
She thanked the BGB personnel to extend cooperation to overcome that crisis. ‘For your cooperation the nation today advancing on the path of development overcoming that crisis,’ she said.
The prime minister mentioned that the trust as the BGB men is examined and she hoped that with the sincere efforts of all BGB will established as the peaceful and modern force and its reputation has been reestablished.
Praising the role of BGB, the prime minister said goods and drug smuggling, women and children trafficking and other border crimes reduced to a great extent because of BGB’s vigilance in border areas.
On her arrival at BGB headquarters, home minister Asaduzzaman khan and director general of BGB Major General Abul Hossain Ahmed received the prime minister.
On the occasion, an attractive parade was arranged at Bir Uttam Anwar Hossain Parade Ground at BGB headquarters. The prime minister reviewed the parade and took salute.
The prime minister handed over BGB Medal, President Border Guard Medal, BGB Medal-Service and PBGM-Service to 67 BGB members for their courageous and brilliant contribution in various activities of the BGB.
