Extremist-den unearthed in city
Police have unearthed an extremists’ den at Ashkona under Dakshin Khan police station in the city.
On secret information that a group of ‘Neo-Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh’ were staying at an apartment in a three-storey building at Purba Ashkona Masjid Road, a team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police cordoned off the area early Sunday.
CTTC unit chief Monirul Islam said this while briefing reporters on the spot.
He noted that the JMB members staying in the building have powerful grenades.
Other residents have already been shifted from the building, he added.
Meanwhile, two women along with two children surrendered to the law enforcers, confirmed Masudur Rahman, DMP deputy commissioner (media).
The law enforcers, however, continued laying siege to the house till 10:00am and asked the other suspect extremists to surrender to them.
Security was beefed up in the area.
