BNP again will come to power: Khaleda

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday said her party would again come to power through waging movements, in due time.
‘I had participated in anti-Ershad movements and brought BNP into power thrice,’ she said while addressing a student rally, in the city.
Khaleda said BNP will again come to power through re-organising the party, bringing those who are competent, averting grouping and lobbying.
‘This should be your determination and oath on this day of the founding anniversary of Chhatra Dal. You have to get prepared adequately to forge movements in due time to protect the country, come to power in future and bring smile back to the saddened people,’ she told the students.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of BNP, organised the rally at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, in the capital to mark its 38th founding anniversary.
Khaleda alleged that the incumbent government wants to enact new laws one after another only to perpetuate in power and pave the way for cling to power, generations after generations.
Now, some kind of games and conspiracy are on involving this country which is intentional and to give away sovereignty to others, she alleged.
In an oblique reference to killing of Awami League lawmaker Manzurul Islam Liton and a woman on Saturday, the BNP chief said such political killings must stop.
Citing killings of journalist couple Sagar-Runi, she said there are foreign intelligence agents galore in the country who cannot stay in an independent and sovereign country, like Bangladesh.
Khaleda, also the former prime minister, said it has been published by the media that police had set fire on the houses of ethnic Santals in Gaibandha.
‘It means that police along with Chhatra League and Jubo League men exploded petrol bombs, torched vehicles and killed people during the past movement of BNP-led alliance to mislead people and transfer blame to BNP,’ she observed.
During her an hour-long speech, she also spoke about the ‘government’s misdeeds’, ‘corruptions,’ ‘oppression on opposition,’ ‘enforced disappearances of citizens and party men’, ‘extrajudicial killing’ and ‘death’ in police crossfire.
She alleged that the government didn’t follow any rules and regulations while purchasing arms and ammunition from foreign countries. She alleged that arms were purchased in exchange of commission and in an assurance of staying in power.
Referring to her proposals on formation of a new election commission submitted to president Abdul Hamid and recent talks with him, she said a neutral election commission is not enough; there should be an election-aiding neutral government to facilitate EC for holding acceptable, free, fair and neutral election.
Khaleda said Ziaur Rahman, her husband who was assassinated, had proclaimed the war of independence. Without naming founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she said, he wanted to be the prime minister of Pakistan not of Bangladesh.
She asked the Chhatra Dal leaders and activists to get disciplined, study about Ziaur Rahman, work for true education in the country and project the government’s misdeeds before the people.
Presided over by JCD president Rajib Ahsan, the programme was addressed, among others, by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and JCD general secretary, Akramul Hassan.
