No permission for BNP rally yet

At a meeting of Dhaka city BNP at Bhashani auditorium at its office Friday afternoon, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the government to give permission to hold the rally either at Suhrawardy Udyan or at Nayapaltan.
BNP on December 28, 2016 announced that it would hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan today marking the third anniversary of the January 5, 2014 elections, boycotted by all opposition parties. The party observed the day as ‘democracy killing day.’
Addressing the preparatory meeting, Fakhrul hoped
that good sense would prevail on the government to give permission to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan showing sincerity.
He alleged that the government was employing double standards as the ruling Awami League was allowed to hold rallies and processions across the country on Thursday while unleashing law enforcers and AL activists to foil BNP’s black flag processions.
Fakhrul said that the government was so afraid of people that they did not allow political opponents to hold rally and procession.
He asked the government to declare ‘one-party rule’ in the country without further deceiving people and added that AL never believed in democracy.
The BNP secretary general urged the party leaders and activists to rise up and get united forgetting conflicts and division for the sake of the existence of their own and the country.
Presiding over the meeting, city BNP convener Mirza Abbas asked city unit leaders and activists to remain prepared to show that they could turn a rally into a human sea in a one-hour notice.
Senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi claimed that BNP was such a party that always had instant preparation for holding a rally.
He said that public works department had no objection to the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan if police gave permission.
