Court records statement of former JP MP Quader

A judicial magistrate court in Gaibandha on Saturday evening recorded statement of former Jatiya Party lawmaker Abdul Quader Khan in the case of killing Gaibandha-1 Awami League lawmaker Manzurul Islam Liton in his house on December 31, 2016.
A senior court official confirmed the news saying that judicial magistrate Joynul Abedin recorded the statement of the former military physician who turned a politician after retirement.
He was sent to jail after recording of his statement under the Section 164 of
Code of Criminal Procedure.
The content of the statement recorded at the judge chamber could not be learnt immediately but the police investigators accused Quader of plotting the murder of controversial AL lawmaker.
The police had arrested the physician from his house in Bogra on February 21 and produced in a Gaibandha court following the day.
Until morning, Atiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sunderganj police station, told New Age that they had been interrogating Quader keeping him at the office of Gaibandha superintendent of police on security grounds. Police began interrogating him on Wednesday taking him on a 10-day remand in police custody.
The police arrested Amirul Islam Rana, one of the four who allegedly took part in the killing mission, from a location in Dhaka on Wednesday evening and brought him to Gaibandha.
He gave confessional statement before a Gaibandha court on Thursday afternoon and was sent to jail custody, the police said.
Gaibandha superintendent of police Ashraful Islam in a briefing at his office in the afternoon said, based on the confessional statement of detained accused and other evidences, it was clear that Quader masterminded the killing for his political gain.
As per Quader’s plot, his close aide Rana, car driver Abdul Hannan, nephew Shahin Mia and house-help Mehedi Hasan, residents of different villages in Sunderganj, took part in the killing mission, the police said.
Hannan, Shahin and Mehedi were arrested and gave confessional statements before a Gaibandha court on Tuesday.
Qauder was an aspirant candidate from JP for the by-election to Gaibandha-1 constituency, which fell vacant following the killing of Manzurul Islam.
